Über die Topic Tables

Mit der Community für die Community: Zu den Grundsäulen von NFDI4Biodiversity gehört es, die Biodiversitätsfachgemeinschaft aktiv in die Arbeit des Konsortiums einzubeziehen und zur Mitgestaltung einzuladen. Ein neues Format hierfür sind die Topic Tables: sinnbildliche Thementische, an denen Herausforderungen im Bereich des Forschungsdatenmanagements angegangen werden können, für die bisher der Ort oder das Team fehlten. Ziel ist es, sich in Arbeitsgruppen zusammenzufinden und gemeinsam konkrete Lösungsansätze zu entwickeln gemeinsam Lösungsansätze für komplexere Herausforderungen vorzudenken – etwa in Form eines Grundsatzpapiers, eines White Papers, einer Roadmap, einer Leitlinie oder eines Folgeantrags, um das Vorhaben weiter voranzubringen. Die Topic Tables bieten so Gelegenheit, sich innerhalb des großen und diversen NFDI4Biodiversity-Expertennetzwerks sowie der erweiterten Community zu vernetzen und mit vereinten Kräften unmittelbar Verbesserungen anzustoßen.

Der Fokus liegt dabei auf einem spezifischen Thema (Topic), das im gemeinsamen Austausch oder in Workshops bearbeitet wird und am Ende in Form entsprechender Outputs der Community zur Nutzung und Weiterbearbeitung zur Verfügung gestellt wird. Worum es dabei geht, ist den Arbeitsgruppen freigestellt (nähere Informationen zu möglichen Themen finden Sie weiter unten auf dieser Seite, jedoch muss ein Bezug zu den Zielen und Aufgabenbereichen im Arbeitsprogramm für die zweite Förderphase existieren (nähere Informationen zum Arbeitsprogramm findet sich hier: Participation in Funding Phase II).

Organisatorisch sind die Topic Tables in Task Area 1 – Community Enabling and Support (2enable) angesiedelt.

With the community for the community: One of the cornerstones of NFDI4Biodiversity is to actively involve the biodiversity community in the work of the consortium and invite them to help shape it. A new format for this are the Topic Tables: symbolic theme tables at which where challenges in the field of research data management can be tackled for which the location a functional structure or team was previously lacking. The aim is to come together in working groups and jointly develop concrete solutions for complex challenges in the field - for example in the form of a policy paper, a white paper, a roadmap, a guideline or a follow-up application to take the project issue forward. The Topic Tables thus provide an opportunity to network within capitalise on the large and diverse NFDI4Biodiversity network of experts and the wider community and to join forces to initiate immediate in order to achieve direct improvements.

The focus for each table is on a specific topic, which is worked on in joint discussions or workshops and is then made available to the community for use and further development in the form of corresponding outputs for use and further processing. The working groups are free to decide what they want to work on, but there must be a link to the objectives and areas of activity in the work programme for the second funding phase (more information on possible topics the work programme can be found further down on this pagehere: Participation in Funding Phase II).

OrganizationallyOrganisationally, the Topic Tables are located in in Task Area 1 - Community Enabling and Support (2enable).

Vorschläge einreichen 

Grundsätzlich sind alle Akteur:innen der Biodiversitätscommunity dazu eingeladen, Topic-Table-Themen Vorschläge für Topic Tables einzureichen.

Folgende Voraussetzungen müssen dabei erfüllt sein:

  • Das Thema wird von mindestens zwei Institutionen gemeinsam bearbeitet
  • Talk

    Mindestens eine Institution ist Partner in NFDI4Biodiversity, um die Weiterleitung der Mittel Soweit Finanzmittel beantragt werden, muss mindestens ein Konsortialpartner in NFDI4Biodiversity beteiligt sein (Liste von Partnern: siehe Letter_of_intent). Um die Weiterleitung von Mitteln (gemäß Kooperations- und Mittelweiterleitungsvertrag) zu ermöglichen (diese Institution sollte als Antragsteller fungieren), solle dieser als antragstellende Person fungieren.
  • Für jeden Topic Table wird eine Kontaktperson für die Kommunikation mit dem Konsortium benannt (diese kann von der antragsstellenden antragstellenden Person abweichen)  
  • Das Thema adressiert eine abgrenzbare, in der Biodiversitäts-Community vorhandene Herausforderung in Sachen Datenmanagement

Geht es später an die Einberufung der Arbeitsgruppe, fungiert die der federführende NFDI4Biodiversity -Partnereinrichtung Konsortialpartner als einladende Institution.


  • At The topic is being worked on jointly by at least two institutions must collaborate on the topic
  • If funding is requested, at least one consortium partner must be involved in NFDI4Biodiversity (list of partners: Letter_of_intent). In order At least one institution must be a partner in NFDI4Biodiversity to enable the transfer of funds (in accordance with the cooperation and fund funding transfer agreement) (, this institution partner should act as the applicant).
  • A contact person for communication with the consortium must be is named for each topic table Topic Table (this person may differ from the person submitting the application)  
  • The topic addresses a definable data management challenge that exists in the biodiversity community

If the working group is later organisedconvened, the lead NFDI4Biodiversity consortium partner institution acts as the inviting institution.

 Es gibt verschiedene Möglichkeiten, sich an Topic Tables zu beteiligen:

  1. Einen eigenen Topic Table einreichen
    1. Identifikation eines Problems oder Themas in der Biodiversitätscommunity, das dringend einmal angegangen werden sollte.
    2. Mitstreiter:innen suchen (s. auch Wer kann auch Vorschläge einreichen?)

  2. Teilnahme an kommenden Umfragen (TBA- LINK- Beschreibung bei "Wie läuft die Umfrage ab?"kommt bald), in denen bereits bestehende Ideen konsolidiert und Interessensbekundungen für die Beteiligung an möglichen Topic Tables eingesammelt werden

Finanzierung und Fristen

Die Förderung erfolgt vorbehaltlich einer Bewilligung der Mittel durch die DFG im Sommer 2025für die zweite Förderphase, die wir  im Spätsommer 2025 erwarten.

Förderfähige Aktivitäten

Anträge können sich auf folgende Bereiche beziehen:

  • Workshops und Vernetzungsveranstaltungen
  • Konzeptentwicklung von Datenprodukten und -infrastrukturen (z.B. Roadmaps, Workflows etc.)
  • Publikationen und Dokumentationen (Leitlinien, Grundsatzpapiere, Whitepapers, ...) 
  • Stakeholder-Engagement und Community-Integration
  • Erstellung von Folgeanträgen

Funding and deadlines

Funding is subject to approval of the consortium´s proposal for the second funding phase in late summer 2025.

Eligible activities

Applications can relate to the following areas:

  • Workshops , round tables and networking events
  • Concept development of data products and infrastructure sinfrastructures (e.g. roadmaps, workflows, etc.)
  • Publications and documentation (guidelines, policy papers, white papers, ...) 
  • Stakeholder engagement and community integration
  • Preparation of follow-up applications


Finanzierung

  • Zur Unterstützung der Topic Tables werden Sachmittel bereitgestellt, etwa für Reisen zu Präsenztreffen, Tagungen, Workshops oder Publikationen.
  • Personalmittel zu beantragen, ist hingegen nicht möglich. Talkidtalk-1969

Als Orientierung für die Budgetbeantragung kann für einen Topic Table, inklusive Workshop und Publikation in einem Open Access Journal, mit ca. 5.000 bis 10.000 Euro gerechnet werden. 

Als Option steht es Topic Tables den Gruppen offen, sich für die Umsetzung ihrer Konzepte mit bestehenden Partnereinrichtungen inner- oder außerhalb des Konsortium um eine weitere Finanzierung zu bewerben.

As an orientation for the budget application, approx. 5,000 - 10,000 € can be expected for a topic tableAs a guide for budget applications, a Topic Table, including workshop and publication in an open access journal, can be expected to cost around 5,000 to 10,000 euros. 

As an option, Topic Tables are free to apply Topic Table teams have the option of applying for further funding for the realisation of their concepts with existing partners partner institutions within or outside the consortium.

    A group of experts with the right skills and knowledge, which is organised by the Steering Committee, decides which of the submitted topics will receive funding.

    Applicants will receive a notification on the rating of their proposal after the Review Board completes its work in June 2025.



    Auswahlverfahren

    Die eingereichten Anträge werden durch ein von der Steuerungsgruppe mandatiertes Review Board begutachtet, das aus fachkundigen Community-Vertreter:innen zusammengesetzt ist. Sie erstellen ein Ranking und Empfehlungen, über die die Steuerungsgruppe im Rahmen der von ihr verantworteten Budgetaufstellung für jedes Kalenderjahr entscheidet. Konsortialpartner erhalten die Bewilligung als Teil ihrer Budgetzuweisung für das jeweilige Kalenderjahr.

    The applications submitted are assessed by a review board mandated by the SC, which is made up of expert community representatives.
