Über die NFDI4Biodiversity-Flexfunds

Mithilfe der Flexfunds, den flexiblen Anteilen im NFDI4Biodiversity-Budget, bieten wir den Partnereinrichtungen zusätzliche Beteiligungsmöglichkeiten im Arbeitsprogramm von NFDI4Biodiversity an . So können sie - auch zusammen mit weiteren Akteuren aus der Biodiversitätscommunity - kleinere Vorhaben zur Verbesserung des Forschungsdatenmanagements (FDM) für Biodiversitäts-, Ökologie- und Umweltdaten umsetzen.

Sie möchten bestehende Services verbessern, innovative Lösungen für die Datenmobilisierung oder -dokumentation entwickeln, Schulungsmaterialien erstellen oder haben andere Ideen für Optimierungen, neue Ressourcen oder spannende Aktivitäten? Dann könnte es sich lohnen, sich auf eine Flexfunds-Finanzierung zu bewerben.

Förderfähige Aktivitäten umfassen zum Beispiel:

  • Datenmobilisierung und Standardisierung
  • Entwicklung oder Optimierung von Services und Tools
  • Erstellung von Dokumentationen und Trainingsressourcen
  • Integration von Daten- und Service-Providern
  • Verbesserung bestehender Services (z. B. Usability-Studien, Dokumentation)
  • Mobilisierung bestehender Datensätze nach FAIR-Prinzipien
  • Open Access-Publikationen
  • Seed-Funding für Subcommunities
  • Messe- oder Konferenzauftritte
  • Datenexponate und Schulungsmaterialien

What are Flexfunds?

Flexfunds are flexible resources within the NFDI4Biodiversity budget designed to provide additional opportunities for consortium partners to participate in the work programme. Whith flexfunds, they can implement short-term activities for the improvement of research data management (RDM) for biodiversity, ecological and environmental data, possibly in collaboration with other community stakeholfers.

You want to improve an existing service, mobilise existing data, launch an improved documentation, create training materials for the community or hav other ideas for improvements, new resources or worthwhile activities? Then handing in a flexfunds project proposal could be worth your time.


Eligible activities for proposals:
  • Data mobilization and standardization
  • Development or optimization of services and tools
  • Creation of documentation and training resources
  • Integration of data and service providers
  • Improvement of existing services (e.g., usability studies, documentation)
  • Mobilization of existing datasets according to FAIR principles
  • Open Access publications
  • Seed funding for subcommunities
  • Exhibitions or conference participation
  • Data exhibits and training materials

Funding Application for NFDI4Biodiversity Flexfunds 2025

Target group: 

  1. Any researcher affiliated with an NFDI4Biodiversity consortium member organization can apply.
  2. Applicants not affiliated with an NFDI4Biodiversity consortium member organization can apply if they cooperate with a member organization.

Deadline: 

Project duration: The standard duration is one calendar year, starting on January 1st. Deviations of up to 24 months are possible

Antragsberechtigung: Antragsberechtigt ist jedes Mitglied der Partnereinrichtungen unter Einbeziehung ihres "Principal Investigators ".

Budgetrahmen: 10.000 bis 70.000 Euro pro Jahr

Laufzeit: Die Standardlaufzeit beträgt ein Kalenderjahr, beginnend am 1. Januar. In Einzelfällen sind begründete Abweichungen von bis zu 24 Monaten möglich (Als Begründung zählen data science oder strategische Projekte).

Auswahlverfahren

Die eingereichten Anträge werden durch ein vom SC mandatiertes Review Board begutachtet, das aus fachkundigen Community-Vertreter:innen zusammengesetzt ist. Sie erstellen ein Ranking und Empfehlungen, über die die Steuerungsgruppe im Rahmen der von ihr verantworteten Budgetaufstellung für jedes Kalenderjahr entscheidet. Konsortialpartner erhalten die Bewilligung als Teil ihrer Budgetzuweisung für das jeweilige Kalenderjahr.

The acceptance of a flexfunds project is determined by a review board appointed by the Steering Committee (SC), consisting of experts from relevant fields in our community. They will rank the proposals and provide recommendations for the Steering Committee to decide during the budget preparation for each calendar year. Consortium partners receive the approval as part of their budget allocation for the respective calendar year.
